
Saqlain Mushtaq is a Pakistani off spinner and played for Pakistan. He debut in 1995 against Sri Lanka and pickup 4 wickets. He played 49 test matches and took 208 wickets with an average of 29.83 and played 169 One Day Internationals and took 288 wickets with an average of 21.78. He is the fastest bowler to reach the millstones of 50, 100, 150, 200, 250 wickets in ODIs. He was at the peak of his career before 1999 ICC World Cup and took 20 wickets with an average of 20.15 in 1999 tour of India. Pakistan shown excellent performance and he received man of the series award because of his performance. He took 4 five wickets hauls in consecutive four innings of the test matches in that tour as well. He also named cricketer of the year by Wisden in 2000.
Saqlain Mushtaq is the bowler who invents the Doosra. Doosra is the off spinner’s delivery which is bowled with almost similar action as off spin but turn other way. The Doosra delivery played an important role in his success as a off spinner. After the development of Doosra many other international player that include Muralitharan, Mendis, Ajmal and Harbhajan also used it with success and now it become an integral part in any off spinner’s inventory. It’s because of his invention of Doosra delivery some analysts regard him one of the finest off spinner ever played and some put him even above Muralitharan as well because he gave cricket something that is not given by anyone else in the history of this game. Although he latter claim that he also been able to invent Teesra or Jalebi and chotha as well.
Saqlain Mushtaq played his last test match against India in 2004 and last One day International against South Africa in 2003. After that he never selected again for Pakistan and now playing county cricket in England.
